Echoes of Myth and Modernity: Flute and Piano Masterworks from Europe to the Americas
Faculty artists Ysmael Reyes, flute, and Jooyeon Chang, piano, present a recital featuring works that span various emotions, styles, and cultural influences. The program opens with the lyrical elegance and warmth of Mel Bonis's Sonata for Flute and Piano, followed by Venezuelan composer Paul Desenne’s flute sonata, which offers a vibrant fusion of classical form with Latin American rhythms and melodies. Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz’s Alejandrías Sonoras brings a contemporary flair with its vivid textures and improvisatory nature, leading to the recital’s finale with Karl Reinecke’s Undine Sonata, a Romantic-era work inspired by the mythical water spirit. From the lush traditions of the past to the daring innovations of the present, this recital promises to be a compelling journey through the rich landscapes of sound and culture.
